POEM:

I love you the way money feels in my hands,
the way it lays there,
the thought of all the things I could do with it.

Also, I love you the way money
leaves my hand
quick, quiet,
then it’s gone.

It doesn’t pack a bag
it doesn’t think.
It goes to places I’ve never been.
It becomes rent and mortgage,
gas, all left behind in the distance.

When it makes time, it sees you
before it disappears somewhere
in the folds of your life,
learning your hand like it’s learned mine.
Utilities, food, water. More of it goes to other places.
After paying to keep the lights on,
after its gone, I’m off to get some more.

I love you the way money feels in my hand
I love you the way money leaves my hand.
I always come back.
