Joseph Franciosa has been a freelance dance photographer – videographer for over 10 years, living in Heidelberg since 2019 and has worked with the Heidelberger Sinfoniker, Nostos Tanztheater, Eintanzhaus Mannheim and Heiliggeistkirche. Previously, he lived in New York and worked with renowned dance companies: Batsheva, Martha Graham, Gallim, Ashley Bouder Project, YinYue Dance, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Belinda McGuire, Joshua Beamish, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and the Joyce Theater. He originally focused on architectural photography. He found dance to be equally important in the relationship of forms and spaces. He continually collaborates with performance artists, musicians and architects.
I had the good fortune to collaborate with Choreographer Christina Liakopoyloy for Fox Keeper. After viewing her choreography I came up with this transitional video. Based on the poem Fox Keeper by Margaret Wesseling, its an allegory for the migrants who find themselves ensnarled by the world they find themselves in and the hope of freedom.
