Director Statement
In my fifth collaboration with the choreographer Hannah Dennison we aim to create a cinematic scrapbook about her ensemble’s experience of 2020. After four years of creative development, she was scheduled to stage the world premiere of her latest dance performance, ‘The Quarry Project.’ In a tragic blow to the entire ensemble, all performances were postponed in March, 2020. However, they continued to train safely and find surprising ways to foster intimacy with each other. Their commitment to supporting each other became a source of inspiration during unsettling times. Our intention in making this film was to capture the emotional journey they experienced in 2020 and portray a sense of time that’s been warped by the pandemic; that it feels like the fastest and slowest days of our lives.
