Growing up in such a unique place like San Francisco, I’ve always had a love of capturing what was around me. No matter the medium or landscape, as a creator I believe it is my duty to capture moments in time and share my view of the world. I am leaving something behind for generations, to love, learn, enjoy, critique, and most importantly remember.
Director Statement
Turfin is a brief introduction to the San Francisco Bay Area street dance. It was born in the height of the “Hyphy Movement”, serving as an outlet, and alternative to the rise in violence in the Black and Brown communities around The Bay. In this documentary I give a small glimpse into what it means to be a Turf Dancer, battle socio-economic structures, and find a safe haven in the expression of dance.
