Mackenzie Baumert is originally from Edmond, Oklahoma and has studied ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, contemporary, ballroom, and tap since the age of 3. In Oklahoma, she trained under Kristin Mcquaid and under Skye Massay where she began her dance career. While competing across country in national dance competitions, Mackenzie traveled as an assistant with Hollywood Connection Dance where she trained closely with Industry Professionals such as Bonnie Story and Mitchell Federan. Some of her performance credits include the Industry Dance Awards as Dancer Against Cancer, SYTYCD showcase under Jessica Starr, “Sorrow’s” feat. Josh Price video, and she competed on NBC’s World of dance with the group “Intention.” Now, she is receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a Leadership Studies Minor with plans to graduate in three years. During her time at Chapman thus far, Mackenzie has been a part of Team Shaka where she now serves as vice president, while also training under amazing faculty and building close relationships with her peers in the dance department. Some of her recent performances include the International Women’s Day event where she performed under Azuki Umeda, creating her own short film title “9:02 in OKC,” and many more. After graduating, she plans to choreograph and dance professionally, while traveling across the world to strive towards her dream of becoming a producer and director.
