Vivian Vivas is an artist with a strong background in photography, video, performance, and film. Her work seeks to invite conversations about cultural and philosophical issues through experimental art forms and interrogate the role of art in culture. From extensive travel focused on indigenous cultures, rituals, and aesthetics, Vivian infuses visual anthropology, sound, movement, and performance in her work. An interest in photography that began in childhood has taken Vivian around the world as an artist. She has traveled in South America, India, and Africa, documenting indigenous communities to experience the roots of their culture and traditions and express them in an experimental way.
Vivian Vivas purpose of work is to welcome the unconscious mind to open a door where one can experience pure emotions behind images. She dreams that people cease to identify with races, borders, and the forms that we call personalities, and surrender to the power of Oneness of life. Her conceptual work is her art piece, which then directs the media she uses—from experimental film to performance and installation.
