Director Statement

The video aims to reinforce the message with subversive representations and obvious, even grotesque symbolisations of capitalism and its impact on the mass population.
I wanted to create two very contrasted minimalist worlds – with saturated graphics and caricatures and to show a challenging performance (Business Man) who paradoxically seduces and scares the audience – revealing obvious but disguised correlations between the two distincts worlds.

WATCH Audience FEEDBACK

The EXPERIMENTAL JULY 2017 FEEDBACK Film Festival gave our audiences simply the best of short movies from around the world.

The theme of the festival was “IMAGINATION”.

Okay….so this was copout of a theme! We always have an emotional or plot connection in all of our festival themes. For this festival it was simply imagination.

This was our first ever EXPERIMENTAL & MUSIC VIDEO Festival. And it will be the first of many. We plan on doing one more festival in 2017 (November), and then have 4 planned for 2018. By 2019, we plan on doing one every single month.

The quality of experimental and music videos submitted to this festival is truly remarkable. There is so much amazing talent out there in the world and we were lucky to show 11 films at our inaugural event.

The crowd was as chatty as ever too. They were really into it as we had a lot of original voices contribute to the feedback of each short film video. It was so great to see 70% of our audiences who were first time attendees to the FEEDBACK Film Festival.

I have to thank Mary Cox for her amazing job programming the festival. This was Mary’s first time as a programmer for the festival and it sure won’t be her last. She started off as a volunteer for the festival and is now one of our main employees. She also happens to be an artist on the rise and we couldn’t be happier to have her on our team.

See you at the festivals.

ICARO, 11min, Brazil, Experimental
Directed by Carla Jay Shah Laroche

Based on the Greek tragedy, Icaro is a Brazilian modern adaptation of the iconic struggle; a man who seeks liberation from an environment in which he feels caged and powerless. Where myths tell us that our fate is determined by a greater force than our own, Icaro is a poetic film which illustrates how our fate is also determined by choice. Icaro must reach his own decisions on how his profession as an elevator operator will ultimately affect him, a profession which is still widely in use in Brazil. The film touches multiple aspects of Brazil’s complex society.
