There is an episode about this festival in our archives as we talk about the audience and all the great films we showcased at this event.

The theme of the September 2018 EXPERIMENTAL/MUSIC/DANCE FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto was “Molding Oneself”.

Each film was about a character or being transforming themselves into something different.

A great crowd. Amazing films. Fun and enlighting conversation. You couldn’t have asked for a better festival.

This was a festival of short films that simply looked amazing on the big screen. There are at least a few future big time filmmakers in this selection. The audience was riveted by what they saw – and I don’t think I’ve ever said that before in our over 100 previous festivals.

A great night and thanks for all of the great filmmakers who submitted. I am so impressed by the work that we received. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

See you at the festivals.

Short Film: MIRRORS, 3min., Germany, Music Video

041dec6c2e posterThe music video for “Mirrors” unites the extraordinary sound of composer and multi-instrumentalist Julian Scherle with the magic, mysticism and magnitude of Iceland’s nature. Scherle’s cineastic sound, accompanied by alternating visual structures and breathtaking landscapes, evokes a wealth of overflowing emotions within the viewer. Fantastic Iceland shots and fascinating visual effects create mesmerizing, dream-like sequences. The video was produced by Cologne-based agency GROSSE8 and filmed under the direction of Manfred Borsch. “It’s about chaos; about ugliness transforming itself into something positive,“ says Borsch. “Stress and anxiety dissolve through isolation, clearing the view for the beauty of everyday things.”

Julian, aka Són, is a German-raised, Los Angeles-based composer, music producer, multi-instrumentalist and artist. Scherle’s music has been featured on high profile and critically acclaimed projects such as “American Horror Story” and “Scream”. He helped shape the score of the hit show “Mr. Robot”, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series in 2016.

Són’s first release, “Rituals” was created over the course of 2016 and 2017 and combines organic electronica with driving rock elements. This work conceptually reflects an exploration of modern day rituals and their influence on mankind. After the completion of Rituals, Scherle passed along the concept to five befriended directors to visually explore this topic and gain different perspectives as a collective.

This music video tells of a soul’s journey; fighting with inner demons and the desire to submit to fear, before finding courage, fighting back and emerging into the light. It also illustrates the journey of self discovery; the often anxious and obstacle-ridden task of finding one’s purpose in this life and the brilliant moment when one recognises their calling and aligns with it.

Collide is a unique cinematic music project emerging from Australia and consisting of multi-instrumentalists Joe Taranto and Jess Graham. Founded by two award winning musicians and composers, together they create emotive and dynamic music for film, television, and other commercial mediums.

Director Statement

This film about opposites and attraction is a pure passion project!
Something that mirrors my thoughts, something I wanted to do for a long time…..something I am just honestly proud of!
This is my interpretation of a couple trying to survive the insurmountable differences between them.
