There is an episode about this festival in our archives as we talk about the audience and all the great films we showcased at this event.

The theme of the November 2018 Experimental/Music/Dance Feedback Film Festival in Toronto was “Confinement”.

Each film was about someone or something being confined to an area.

A great festival. Perhaps the best group of fans that have every atttended one of our events. People were simply into these films. They loved them and the artistic creations that all 12 of these shorts showcased.

We split the festival into two parts: First Half was all about Music. 2nd Half was all about Dance. It was a great blend of creation and we will continuing to do it this way.

See you at the festivals.

There is an episode about this festival in our archives as we talk about the audience and all the great films we showcased at this event.

The theme of the October 2018 LA FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto was “I am who I am”.

First half – Best of FEMALE Directed Short Film Dramaa
2nd half – Best of EXPERIMENTAL Short Films.

The Female Festival is becoming the FEEDBACK Festival’s showcase festival. It’s our most popular festival, and arguably the festival that garners the best films submitted. We are honored to how be showcasing at least one Female Festival a month in either Los Angeles or our Toronto events.

This was the first time we showcased our Experimental Festival in Los Angeles. A popular event in Toronto, we wanted to see how the LA audience took to these purely original films. They seemed to really like it so we will showcase a full Experimental Festival at our February 2019 event.

Great night all around.

See you at the festivals.

There is an episode about this festival in our archives as we talk about the audience and all the great films we showcased at this event.

The theme of the September 2018 EXPERIMENTAL/MUSIC/DANCE FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto was “Molding Oneself”.

Each film was about a character or being transforming themselves into something different.

A great crowd. Amazing films. Fun and enlighting conversation. You couldn’t have asked for a better festival.

This was a festival of short films that simply looked amazing on the big screen. There are at least a few future big time filmmakers in this selection. The audience was riveted by what they saw – and I don’t think I’ve ever said that before in our over 100 previous festivals.

A great night and thanks for all of the great filmmakers who submitted. I am so impressed by the work that we received. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

See you at the festivals.

There is an episode about this festival in our archives as we talk about the audience and all the great films we showcased at this event.

The theme of the August 2018 EXPERIMENTAL/DANCE/MUSIC FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto was “Beauty In Chaos”.

This was one of those festival that we got by with the skin of our teeth. Lots of shenanigans taking place behind the scenes where a small miscommunication between two cinema workers lead to us almost not being able to screen 3 of the programmed films.

That said, when the lights went on at 7pm, the audience got to watch 11 amazing short films and no one would have guessed that there was any issue at all. Like making a movie – there can be a lot of chaos and issues behind the scenes, but all that matters is what is shot by the camera in frame. If that is golden, then nothing else matters.

I loved this night. The films were all amazing and it was the perfect crowd in attendance to watch and talk about them.

See you at the festivals.

The theme of the June 2018 ANIMATION & EXPERIMENTAL FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto was “Innocence Lost”. Every single film was about characters who lost their idealism.

These types of festivals bring on a whole new crowd and with that an entirely new conversation in the feedback section. These are divisive films that many times attempt to make a social or political commentary on the world.

In the other festivals, the conversation is more about the storytelling – the plots and characters in the films we present. With the Animation & Experimental Festival the discussions lean more towards the thematics and overall points of the film. The subtext and emotions. How is makes us feel!

So if an audience member would go to our Comedy Festival for example on week, an then this festival the next week, they would think we are at a different venue or city.

I like these festivals. The event and films always makes me think days afterward. It stays with me for a long time. I keep going back to the films and what was said.

There is SO much talent out there. It’s amazing actually. Whatever we can do to help get more people to see these films.

See you at the festivals.

The theme of the May 2018 Los Angeles FEEDBACK Film Festival was “Dreams and Reality”. Every single film was about a world that wasn’t totally real. No film was grounded in reality.

This was our 6th straight month showcasing the best of short films from around the world on the 1st Thursday at the LA LIVE Regal Cinemas in downtown Los Angeles. The experiment of doing these festivals here has worked. Slowly we are building a solid crowd of regulars to go with the new people entering our festival world month by month.

I am still trying to master the understanding of the LA audience. This city is the center of storytelling and filmmaking, so generally our audience is going to be a part of that industry. People move to Los Angeles to work in the movies and television. So it’s different than our Toronto festival where we have mostly film fans than film people in the audience. With that you’re going to get a new type of moderation.

The MVP of the festival is our former volunteer and now resident editor Kimberly Villarruel. She travels the longest to get to the festival and has to handle the LA highway grind. She’s always positive and the audience loves her (she’s in the video handing the mic to the audience). She’s doesn’t need to work the festival anymore because she has a job with us editing the screenplay festival readings. But each month though she ventures to help out willing to do anything to make the festival better. This type of personality will serve her well and I’m certain there is a bright future ahead of her.

See you at the festivals.

This was a showcase of 14 of the best Experimental Films in the world today. The theme of the April 2018 Experimental Film Festival was “Attachment”

Funny story about this festival event. It was the first non-sellout in over 50 FEEDBACK Film Festival events in Toronto. A very bad ice storm hit most of Eastern Canada and the United States the day before and navigating through it to get to a destination was…let’s just say, very hard. Not to mention many people were without power.

The show had to go on and the festival took place with an audience of over half the capacity. A grand achievement. This was an audience who LOVES experimental films and it was an honor to have them all.

For the filmmakers that films were showcased at this festival – your audience feedback is from your core audience. These people came to this festival during one of the biggest storms Toronto has seen in years. Even the Toronto Blue Jays baseball game had to be cancelled this night – and they play in a dome stadium!

The show went on and it turned out to be the best event so far in 2018.

The MVP of the night was the entire FEEDBACK Film Festival team. All the camera operators. Volunteers. And Festival Directors Mary Cox & Kierston Drier (who also served as the moderator of the evening). Bravo!

See you at the festivals.
